  1. Messiah Highlights. The Highlights version includes some of the most well-known arias, recitatives, and choruses from Handel's Messiah including the "Hallelujah" chorus. The minute CD features performances by each of the acclaimed soloists featured on the Complete Oratorio version.
  2. NOTE: I've listed recordings of Messiah by year of recording date, no particular reason, other than it seems a logical way of charting the different approaches taken to the work. And I've listed the conductor first, since it's their vision which allows different recordings of Messiah to breathe and grow.
  3. George Frideric Handel conceived his oratorio “Messiah” on a small scale, for a chamber-size orchestra and chorus, with boy choristers on the soprano part. Such a style of performance is not.
