4. The album is incredible and that goes without saying, Toots and The Maytals established the reggae/ska genre just as much as, if not more than Bob Marley. Pressure Drop is one of the best songs of all time and the main reason I bought the album and it sounds even better and more authentic on Vinyl/5(61).

6. While this is a very good collection, the double CD Time Tough: The Anthology includes all the tracks here, but does a better job of covering the whole Toots spectrum, and the sound quality is quite a bit better. So while I agree with the positive reviews here, you get a /5(44).

The group was originally known as The Maytals, when Frederick “Toots” Hibbert met Nathaniel “Jerry” Mathias and Henry “Raleigh” Gordon in After adding their first instrumentalist members to the group, including Hux Brown, Jackie Jackson, Paul Douglas and Rad Bryan, they changed the group’s name to Toots and the Maytals.

This single disc compilation covers a period of 15 years so a lot of people's favourites are going to be left out (though it's well filled at 75 minutes) but as an introduction to the joyful voice of Toots Hibbert it's excellent. 5 of the 20 tracks are from their period recording for the Chinese-Jamaican producer Leslie Kong between 19as the Maytals, the remainder are from their /5(71).
